The CNC publishes its VOD Observatory

Arvester data is included for the third consecutive year

Every year, the CNC publishes a report on video on demand in France, offering an in-depth analysis of socio-economic developments and key trends in the sector. For the past three years, this report has included our data on the visibility of French works on the homepages of Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+. Access to the full report here.

A few observations:

  • Nearly 60% of users choose their programme based on promotion, highlighting the crucial role of editorialisation and recommendation algorithms (p. 33).
  • Analysis of promotion reveals editorial strategies that differ widely from one service to another. Prime Video, for example, offers greater visibility to French works than other services. We also note an increase in the visibility of content that is neither films nor series, such as sporting events and concerts on Prime Video, or video games, which have extremely high visibility on Netflix.
  • France is the second most prominent country of production on all three services. It was third last year on Netflix and Disney+, but it has now overtaken the United Kingdom to claim second place (p. 32).
