Scope

This data export examines the prominence of French and American studio titles on the homepages of Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ in France. The prominence of each catalogue was observed over a two-month period (from 5 September to 24 October 2025) across four distinct profiles. A neutral profile was created and reset each week in order to capture the editorial intent of each service. The other three personas had contrasting habits and followed a strict viewing protocol in order to stimulate algorithmic personalisation. Our sample includes the four major American studios (Universal + Focus Features, Paramount, Sony, Warner), as well as the European champion StudioCanal. It is complemented by intermediate players: Gaumont, EuropaCorp, Goodfellas and A24.

Methodological note

While necessary, defining the scope of the analysis inevitably involves several methodological limitations:

  • This selection does not include certain major players such as Disney/20th Century Fox or Amazon/MGM. This effectively excludes current hits such as Nobody Wants This (20th Television) and Wednesday (MGM), despite their high profile.
  • The data is based on public sources, which means there are some gaps. Although StudioCanal claims to have a catalogue of more than 8,000 titles, only half of these could be collected via their website. In addition, the volume of series varies significantly from one catalogue to another. While Universal has more than Paramount, the latter's total would have been much higher if we had included the catalogues of networks such as CBS.
  • Finally, the lack of distinction between production and distribution activities is likely to create overlaps in the data, such as certain films by Luc Besson (Léon, The Fifth Element, Joan of Arc, etc.) which, although produced by Gaumont, were distributed internationally by Columbia, a subsidiary of Sony.
