Francophone conversation on AI
Arvester took part in a round-table discussion organised by the OIF in Paris
Last week, I had the honour of being invited by Ms Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the OIF, and her team to the round-table discussion entitled ‘Francophone Conversation’. Introduced by Françoise Remarck, Minister for Culture and Francophonie of Côte d'Ivoire, and Mathieu Lacombe, Minister for Culture and Communications of Quebec, this discussion on artificial intelligence and discoverability was moderated by journalist Patrick Simonin, alongside Carole Karemera, Martin Boujol and Mona Laroussi.
The issue of the discoverability of works is widely debated, and we regularly take part in expert panels to discuss the methods used to measure it and the prospects for regulation. But this time, it was above all an opportunity for us to explore the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence for our business, particularly with regard to measuring cultural diversity, one of the major projects we are currently working on at Arvester.
During these discussions, I also had the opportunity to reiterate the importance for an international organisation such as the OIF to establish a Statistical Observatory, in particular to provide a quantitative assessment of the Francophonie’s presence on online cultural service platforms. Regular analysis and monitoring of the effects of recommendation systems on linguistic diversity would enable a precise assessment of the current situation. The data produced could then provide significant support for initiatives aimed at promoting the French language online.
